Spring 2021 - Edition One

FOURTH TIME LUCKY – HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL

We reflect and look forward with hope to
the rest of the year ahead.

This time two years ago Becky and I were not only
recently new parents again for the third time, but we had developed a nagging obsession. That obsession was the pub that you sit in (or more likely sit outside) today. Having lived in Knebworth for 13 years and both in the hospitality industry all our working lives, we were about to embark on an incredible journey. Little did we know then that there was an influence on the horizon that neither of us could ever have comprehended. I am not sure yet whether knowing that would have made us more, or less determined but what I can tell you is that it has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride – already. So here we go again take four, let us hope this time it’s for keeps.
RETRO CLASSICS

Looking back whilst Looking Forward

Soon hopefully the pub will be buzzing with chat, laughter and cordiality. A topic that is sure to never be far from the top of the agenda however will be the response to the Covid Pandemic. Certain to divide opinion we can only hope that more positive subjects and soon dominate the bar room debate. For us as caterers we have probably had more than our fair share of adjustments and re adjustments to make. This April brings another re calibration as we re-introduce the good people of Knebworth and beyond to the beauty of “Chicken in a basket” and “Scampi & Chips”. Our full April menu can be found in this newsletter as we invite you all (weather permitting) to sit back, relax, reminisce and most of all enjoy our Al fresco offering which will be available, when open throughout April and early May. Click here to see the menu available from 17th May, for this menu we have put together a hit-list of classics, best sellers and crowd pleasers although do let us know if we have missed out your favourite from the last 12 months.

We still have a full range of beers, wines, spirits, cocktails, soft and hot drinks to enjoy with your pub lunch. As always if you’ve any real ale requests then please do not hesitate to ask and if possible (and Lloyd likes it), you might see it on the bar soon. Remember we are a free house so keeping fresh, interesting and rotating beers is a passion of ours.

BOOK COLLECTIONS

We are currently looking for any unwanted books in good condition for an internal design project. Not children’s books but any volumes that may be boxed up in the attic, not wanted we will gladly take off your hands.
Meet the Team

After months and months of planning, meetings, negotiations, licensing hearings and sleepless nights we finally got to open the doors on February 14th last year. Having your Head Chef leave in the first week was never part of the plan. But what seemed like a real blow turned out to be an absolute blessing as enter current Head Chef Vicky Goddard. At 25 Vicky might seem young to be a Head Chef but she has the presence, the passion, the knowledge and the leadership to be a fixture in The Station kitchen and a big part of Platform Five’s plans for years to come. Pretty quiet, shy and unassuming Vicky lights up when talking food, recipes or ideas and especially loves it when the people of Knebworth share their lovely fruit and vegetables with her. You can be sure she will do your produce proud.
